Dimplex Mont Blanc Cooling Tower Fan Review

The Dimplex Mont Blanc does cooling in summer and heating in winter. We review its fan performance, heater output and whether it is worth the price.

By Updated 21 June 2026 3.8 Independently tested

The Dimplex Mont Blanc is a practical two-season appliance: a capable enough tower fan for summer and a light supplemental heater for cooler months. At around £55 it suits anyone short on storage space who wants one device instead of two. Fan performance is modest rather than impressive, but the versatility makes it a sensible buy for small rooms and home offices.

Finding storage space for both a tower fan and a fan heater is a problem the Dimplex Mont Blanc tries to solve with a single appliance. It sits at the entry point for dual-purpose fan heaters, offering cooling in summer and supplemental heating in the colder months. It will not replace a serious heater or a high-performance fan, but as a space-saving compromise it is an interesting option.

Design and build quality

The Mont Blanc is a slim tower fan with a slightly taller profile than its cooling-only sibling, the Dimplex DXMBCF. The design is clean and understated, fitting easily into a corner without looking out of place. The grille design at the front allows reasonable airflow and is simple to wipe down.

Build quality is solid for the price. The plastic casing does not flex or creak, and the oscillation mechanism operates smoothly. Controls are mounted on the top of the unit, with clearly labelled settings for fan speeds and the heating modes. There is no remote control, which means going to the unit to make any adjustments.

The base is stable on both hard floors and carpet, and the unit is light enough to carry easily between rooms.

Airflow and cooling

On fan-only mode the Mont Blanc delivers a modest but adequate airflow across its three speed settings. The low setting is gentle enough for background use at a desk, while the high setting produces a decent draught for personal cooling on warm days.

Like the DXMBCF, it is more of a personal cooling fan than a room-filling powerhouse. Oscillation helps spread the airflow, but in a room larger than a standard single bedroom you will notice the limits of its output on hotter days. Positioning it to face you directly will always give the best cooling effect. The tower fan buying guide explains how to position a fan for maximum effect without overworking a smaller unit like this.

Noise

Fan-only mode is quiet on the lower settings, with a soft, even airflow noise that most people would not find intrusive. On the highest fan speed there is a slight increase in motor noise, though it remains within acceptable limits for daytime use.

In heater mode, there is a gentle initial crackling from the element as it warms up, which fades once the element reaches temperature. This is normal behaviour for fan heaters and not a sign of a fault, but it is noticeable in a quiet room during the first minute or two of use. Once warmed up, the heater mode settles into a steady airflow sound not dramatically different from high-speed fan use.

Running costs

In fan-only mode, the Mont Blanc draws about 45W, which works out to roughly 1.1p an hour at the Ofgem price cap of around 24-25p per kWh. Running it overnight as a fan adds around 9p. The heater mode draws approximately 2000W, putting it in line with other fan heaters: short bursts to warm a small room quickly make sense, but running it as a primary heat source all day is expensive. See our tower fan running cost guide for a broader comparison.

Features

The Mont Blanc covers the essentials for a two-season appliance: three fan speeds, oscillation, and a choice of fan-only or heating modes. There is no timer, no remote and no thermostat beyond the basic on/off for the heater. If you want a heater that cuts off automatically when the room reaches temperature, you will need a more sophisticated fan heater.

For a simple appliance that covers both seasons without requiring you to own two separate products, however, the feature set is adequate.

Is the Dimplex Mont Blanc worth it?

The Mont Blanc makes most sense for people with limited storage space who want one appliance to cover both summer cooling and the occasional chilly morning. The fan performance is unremarkable but functional, and the heater is better suited to taking the edge off a room than providing serious warmth.

If you only need a cooling fan, the Dimplex DXMBCF saves a few pounds. If you want a more capable heater, a dedicated fan heater with a thermostat is a better investment. The Mont Blanc earns its place precisely in the middle, as a versatile everyday appliance rather than the best at either job. • Oscillation on both cool and warm modes
  • Compact and easy to move between rooms
  • Reasonable running costs on fan-only mode

Cons

  • Heating output is modest, not a replacement for a proper radiator
  • No remote control
  • Fan-only airflow is average for the price

Frequently asked questions

Does the Dimplex Mont Blanc work as a heater as well as a fan?
Yes. The Mont Blanc includes a heating element alongside its fan modes. It is intended for light supplemental heating rather than replacing a central heating radiator. On a mild day it can take the chill off a small room comfortably, but in a cold winter it will struggle to heat a large space on its own.
Is the Dimplex Mont Blanc quiet on fan mode?
On the lower fan speeds it is reasonably quiet, with a background hum that is acceptable for a bedroom or home office. The heater mode adds a little more noise from the element, but it is not dramatically louder than fan-only operation.
How energy efficient is the Dimplex Mont Blanc heater?
Fan heaters are generally less efficient than oil-filled radiators for sustained room heating. The Mont Blanc's heater is best used for short periods to take the edge off a cold room rather than running all day. On fan-only mode the running costs are similar to any bladed tower fan, adding only pence per hour.
Can I use the Mont Blanc fan without the heating element?
Yes, the cooling fan and heater modes are separate. You can use it purely as a tower fan in summer without activating the heater at all, which keeps running costs low and noise levels comparable to other fans in the range.
